Lava Canyon

After the Ape Caves, the kids begged for the adventure to continue so we went up the road to the Lava Canyon Trail, located at the end of Forest Road 83 in the Mt. St. Helens National Forest. "On May 18, 1980, a mudflow scoured this valley free of topsoil and forest to reveal the treasure beneath; ancient basaltic adesite lava flows." It was simply beautiful.

Yes, that's a picture of the kids far ahead of us on the trail. They ran pretty much the whole way until Mark made them walk single file behind him....Boys!

The scenery was breathtaking and enjoyed by all.

A favorite was the suspension bridge (except for Matteo but he made it across with a little prodding from mom). It was amazingly high and had a great view of the river running through the canyon.

The gang with the trail in the background.

Cooper, Noah & Luke coming out of the canyon. I love this photo.

Almost to the end. Exhaustion is setting in.
What a fun adventure. The kids were great, albeit there were many reminders to stay on the path, and completely worn out by the end of the hike...and only the moms fell (just once, though).
